Did You Know That Tomorrow Is Halloween??!

I did.. somewhere in the back part of my mind.. I knew that tomorrow was Halloween.. but it just hit me today! Oh No! Tomorrow is Halloween! And we only had one costume! A Lady Bug Costume for Putter’s that a friend gave when they moved away! After a frantic trip to the thrift store, we now have one Darth Vader, one Spider man, one Cowgirl, Indiana Jones and Doc Holiday! I was reaching there… we were low on funds and all I could find was a bowler hat.. add in a white button up shirt, dress pants a bow tie and a vest with a flower.. and there ya go! Knight is now walking around practicing his “If you don’t watch it you’ll be pushing up daisies from six feet under” impression! At least that is what I think Doc said in the movie.. it’s been a very long time!

We managed to get all that for $16.90. We had $17.00 on us! I am on a frugal HIGH right now! It just amazed me that some people spend hundreds on costumes to wear for one night. We are not those people.. In fact I am completely jazzed that Little Mama’s outfit can be worn any time. That was my biggest accomplishment of the day! And that I was able to trade the police outfit Little Man wanted that wasn’t a complete outfit for an entire Spiderman outfit for two dollars less!! Without a temper tantrum!! :o)

Tomorrow night we will get dressed up and go trick-or-treating. We pass out tracts and tell everyone “Thank you and God Bless you!” Or “Thank you! Jesus Loves you!”  Then we come home get ready for bed, have popcorn, and hot cocoa, and leave out all that candy for the Great Pumpkin. Who then trades the candy for neat little gifts. Like coloring books, and fun pencils, and stuffed toys… which last much longer then the candy, without the sugar/food coloring high!

So what do you do for Halloween? Do you have special traditions? Do you go all out on the costumes? Make your own?

Be Blessed..

Strawberries ‘N’ Sunshine Cover Review And Giveaway!!

I was contacted a few weeks ago by Amy, owner of Strawberries ‘N’ Sunshine, asking if I would be interested in doing a review and giveaway for her covers! Was I?! I was blown away that someone was contacting me! After sending out emails by the tens every day asking for products to review, I couldn’t believe this one came so easy! Just after I emailed her back agreeing, I became a fan of her FaceBook page and won a fitted to go with the cover I was going to review!

This is from Amy’s website:

My name is Amy, I have been married for 19 years to Jamie and we are the proud parents of five daughters and one son. Cloth diapers are made on request and I will sometimes offer some in stock or an occasion custom slot. If you are interested in custom orders for diapers, please contact me.

I enjoy making Sunshine Sacks and take pride in making something that is reusable and budget-friendly. My kids use them and we sometimes give them as gifts. They are simple and easy for little hands to use as well as easy to care for. They are great for snacks, sandwiches, knitting or other craft supplies, make up, etc.
I hope to offer hand knit items in the fall/winter of 2010.

I asked for a cover in the Candy Corn print, just because of the time of year that it is. And the diaper is in Jesus Love Me Print, which is an adorable sunny yellow with rainbows and little sayings about how much Jesus loves me. The cover fits wonderfully! I have tried it over the Strawberries ‘N’ Sunshine fitted, a Robyn’s Sweet Cheeks Diapers Fitted, a Nifty Nappy Fitted and my own flat fold diapers. It covered every diaper well with no leaks, and was very trim! No bubble butt!

The cover is very well made! I could not find a single missed seam, and there is a cute little Strawberries ‘N’ Sunshine tag on it! The inside is amazingly soft Suede-cloth material.

Doesn’t that look soft! It’s as soft as it looks too!

The diaper is also very well made, no dropped stitches and very adsorbent! But I thought it could use a few more snaps and needed to be just a tad bit wider! When I told Amy this she was quick to come up with a new wider design that has more snaps on the back flaps to hold the front flaps up. Now if I can just come up with a paycheck to order another or two or three :o)

Amy also makes Sunshine Sacks, reusable snack and sandwich bags that have PUL between two layers of fabric to keep your snacks and sandwiches dry. And these cute little travel wipes.. which happen to fit just right inside a Sunshine Sandwich Sack.. :o) I I keep mine in there inside the diaper bag, so they stay clean.  If I know I will use them while out, I wet them before putting them in the sack. They stay wet all day, but the sack keeps them from getting anything else wet. And it doesn’t take up a lot of room!

The Patriotic Print matches my diaper bag perfectly, and the travel wipes are very soft and absorbent. The clean up poo mess very quickly, and I rarely need more then one! Which is nice when your in the grocery store with 6 kids and baby fills her diaper!

So how can YOU get some Strawberries ‘N’ Sunshine products?
You can buy them here at Amy’s Hyena Cart store.

Thinkin Outta The Box Tuesdays #5

I did it again.. I totally forgot Tuesday’s Post!! So sorry!! I even planned a meal all around posting, then forgot to post it! Silly me…

This week’s Outta The Box meal was Chicken Green Curry… If you like Thai food you’ll love this, and it’s so easy!!

You will need 2-3 lbs of cut up chicken. Pork works too, and so does lamb! I found that red curry works better with lamb though. You will also need an onion, a small bag of frozen peas, a bag of frozen broccoli florets, 2 cans of coconut milk, and curry paste and rice. If you can’t find paste, then powder works too.

Put 3 cups of water (chicken broth) in a pan that has a good sealing lid. Bring to a boil. Add 1 1/2 cups of rice, bring to a simmer and cover. Turn heat down to low for 15-20 minutes, until the liquid is gone and rice is fluffy. Remove from heat, leave covered until curry is done.

Meanwhile, peel the onion and cut it in half. Slice it thinly or dice it, whichever way you like. I find my 6 yr old who doesn’t like onions, doesn’t know onions are onions when they are diced. :o) Saute the onion with a little oil in a stock pot. Add the curry, either paste or powder. Stir until it’s blended in with the onions. 1 Tbs of curry is plenty for my wimpy kids.. I can say that.. I am from New Mexico, and my kids think pepper is hot. Sad, isn’t it?:o)  Then add the chicken. Stir once in a while until browned. Open the coconut milk and pour over the chicken. Bring to a simmer and let simmer 5-10 minutes. Then add peas and broccoli, and simmer until broccoli is heated through. It took almost ten minutes for me.  Serve curry over rice, topped with sour cream, and additional peas if you like.Enjoy!
